Born to Orestes and Helen's daughter Hermione, Tisamenus inherited a vast Peloponnesian empire, holding sway over both Argos and Sparta after his father's death.2

During his reign, the descendants of Heracles (the Heracleidae) returned to claim the Peloponnese. Tisamenus led the Achaeans in battle against them but was defeated and expelled, marking the end of the great Pelopid dynasty's rule over the south. He led his followers into Achaia, where he died in battle.3
