Eldest son of Amyclas; on Amyclas' death the empire came to him, and after his death to Cynortas. Apollodorus omits this reign and makes Cynortas succeed Amyclas directly. The name appears as Argalus in some modern transliterations.6

Son of Amyclas; father of Perieres in the Laconian roll — or of Oebalus in the line Pausanias follows for the Spartan kings.7

Alternate stemma: son of Cynortas who married Gorgophone and begat Tyndareus, Icarius, Aphareus and Leucippus — 'many say' he was not Aeolus' son but Cynortas'. Pausanias routes the throne through Oebalus instead.8
Oebalus⚖
In the Spartan line, son of Cynortas and father of Tyndareus, Hippocoon, and Icarius; Apollodorus instead routes the throne through Perieres son of Cynortas — the fork that decides whether Tyndareus is a Perierid or an Oebalid.9
Hippocoon
Brother of Tyndareus and Icarius; with his many sons he expelled the two from Lacedaemon and held the throne until Heracles slew him and his Hippocoontids, restoring Tyndareus. Pausanias tells the seizure as a quarrel over the kingship, Hippocoon claiming it as the eldest.10
Tyndareus⚖
Son of Perieres in Apollodorus, of Oebalus in Pausanias and Hyginus; expelled by Hippocoon, restored by Heracles after the slaughter of the Hippocoontids, and husband of Leda, father of the Tyndarids.11
Menelaus
Received Sparta by marriage to Helen when Tyndareus resigned the throne to him — the wronged husband from whose hearth the Achaeans sailed to Troy.12
Orestes
United Sparta with the Argive and Mycenaean realms after Menelaus — son of Agamemnon, who at his height held Argos, much of Arcadia, and the Spartan throne.13
Tisamenus
Son of Orestes and Hermione, the last of the line before the Return of the Heracleidae expelled him in his reign.14
