The bastard son of Orestes and Erigone. His descendants led a colony of Achaeans to the island of Lesbos.1
I
Penthilus was the illegitimate son of Orestes by Erigone, the daughter of Aegisthus. Unlike his half-brother Tisamenus who inherited the throne, Penthilus did not rule the Peloponnese.2
II
When the Heracleidae invaded and drove the Pelopids out of their ancestral kingdoms, Penthilus gathered a band of Achaeans, seized the island of Lesbos, and laid the foundations for the Aeolian migration to Asia Minor.3
