Nicostratus was a son of Menelaus. Apollodorus notes a tradition claiming he was the legitimate son of Helen, but Pausanias insists both he and Megapenthes were bastards born to slave women.2

Regardless of his parentage, upon Menelaus' death, Nicostratus joined Megapenthes in seizing control of Sparta and banishing Helen to Rhodes. Because of their dubious birth, the people ultimately accepted Orestes as their overlord instead.3
