Bastard son of godlike Oileus and brother of Ajax, who marshalled the host when Philoctetes was away and fought in the forefront of the Phthians until Aeneas slew him — a namesake of Medon the Ithacan herald and of the Dulichian suitor.1
Though the Argives beside their ships longed for king Philoctetes, they were not leaderless: Medon marshalled them, the bastard son of Oileus whom Rhene bare to the sacker of cities. He had dwelt in Phylace far from his native land, for he slew a kinsman of his stepmother Eriopis.2
In the battle at the ships Medon and Podarces led the Phthians in the forefront; Aeneas slew Medon and Iasus the Athenian captain as the fight raged about the fallen.3
