Though the Argives beside their ships longed for king Philoctetes, they were not leaderless: Medon marshalled them, the bastard son of Oileus whom Rhene bare to the sacker of cities.2

Hyginus counts Ajax son of Oileus and the nymph Rhene among the captains at Troy with twenty Locrian ships — a separate attestation of the name beside Medon's mother in Homer.3
