The daughter of the blind seer Tiresias. She inherited her father's prophetic gifts and was dedicated to Apollo at Delphi after Thebes fell.1
Manto possessed the fire of prophecy like her father Tiresias. She led him when he was blind and served the gods of Thebes.2
When the Argives finally captured and sacked Thebes, Manto was taken as a captive. Fulfilling a vow they had made, the Argives sent her to Delphi as the fairest of the spoils, dedicating her to the service of Apollo.3
Apollodorus reports a Euripidean variant in Alcmaeon's wanderings: during his madness he begot Amphilochus and Tisiphone by Manto, daughter of Tiresias, and entrusted the infants to Creon of Corinth — a second genealogy for Amphilochus beside the brother born to Eriphyle.4⚖
Pausanias says Manto crossed to Asia after Delphi and married Rhacius; their son Mopsus drove the Carians from the land — the Colophonian seer who defeated Calchas on the Returns march. Apollodorus instead makes that Mopsus a son of Apollo and Manto at Colophon.5⚖
