A Nereid daughter of Nereus and Doris named in Homer's Iliad among the sea-sisters who beat their breasts with Thetis — catalogue attestation without further myth in our sources.1
When Thetis plunged from Olympus to grieve for Achilles, the bright cave at the sea's bottom filled with Nereids; Homer names Ianeira among Clymene, Ianassa, Maera, Orithyia and fair-tressed Amatheia, alongside Nemertes and glorious Galatea.2
The name Ianeira appears elsewhere in Homer for mortal women, but this Nereid belongs only to the mourning roll of Iliad 18. Hesiod's preserved Nereid catalogue in our corpus does not repeat her; the atlas records her under the Homer lens as a sea-sister present at Thetis' lament.3
