Daughter of Mestor son of Perseus and of Lysidice daughter of Pelops, born at Mycenae — carried off by Poseidon to the Echinadian Islands and mother of Taphius, founder of the Teleboan house that would raid Electryon's cattle.1
Apollodorus names Hippothoe as the child Mestor begot upon Lysidice at Mycenae. Poseidon carried her off to the Echinadian Islands and there lay with her, begetting Taphius, who colonized Taphos and named its people the Teleboans.2
Through Taphius she became ancestress of Pterelaus and the Taphian raiders who, a generation on, drove off Electryon's cattle and slew his nine sons — binding her abduction to the slaughter that left Licymnius and Alcmena as the surviving branches of Electryon's house.3
