Father of Amphimachus (`amphimachus-epeian`) among the Epeians of the blood of Actor — twin brother of Eurytus (`eurytus-epeian`) in later Elis tradition, though Homer names him only as the captain's sire in the Catalogue of Ships.1
Homer sets Cteatus beside Eurytus when Nestor musters the Epeians: sons of Actor's line, the one father of Amphimachus and the other of Thalpius, who led twenty swift ships from Elis about Buprasium and the coast.2
Apollodorus makes Cteatus and Eurytus twin sons of Actor by Molione — two men joined in one, unmatched in strength — whom Augeas appointed generals when Heracles marched against Elis; Pausanias remembers their tomb at Cleonae, where Heracles shot them on the road to the Isthmian games.3
