First-named among the nine legitimate sons Electryon begot upon Anaxo at Mycenae — one of the brood who met the sons of Pterelaus in battle over the stolen cattle and perished in the mutual slaughter, leaving only the bastard Licymnius alive.1
Apollodorus lists Stratobates at the head of Electryon's nine sons by Anaxo, daughter of Alcaeus: Stratobates, Gorgophonus, Phylonomus, Celaeneus, Amphimachus, Lysinomus, Chirimachus, Anactor, and Archelaus. Their sister Alcmena alone among the children would carry the line forward.2
While Electryon reigned at Mycenae the sons of Pterelaus came with Taphians claiming Mestor's kingdom; when the king ignored them they drove off his cattle. Electryon's sons stood to the herds and in the fighting both bands fell — Apollodorus writes that of all Electryon's sons there survived only Licymnius, who was still young.3
