Youngest son of Neoptolemus and Andromache; he crossed into Asia, slew Areius despot of Teuthrania in single combat for the kingdom, and gave his name to the city still called Pergamon on the Caicus.1
Pausanias names Pergamus third among the sons Neoptolemus begat on Andromache after Troy — after Molossus and Pielus — when the Aeacid settled in Epirus rather than return to Thessaly.2
When Molossus received the kingdom in Epirus, Pergamus crossed the sea into Asia, killed Areius, who ruled Teuthrania as a despot and met him in single combat for the throne, and fixed his own name on the city that still bore it in Pausanias' day. Andromache accompanied him, and a shrine to her still stood at Pergamon in Teuthrania.3
