When Psamathe daughter of Crotopus bore Apollo a son, she exposed the infant in fear of her father. Crotopus' sheepdogs found the child and destroyed him; Apollo sent Vengeance against Argos to punish the Argives for the death.2

At Argos Pausanias saw among the graves that of Linus, son of Apollo by Psamathe the daughter of Crotopus. He had already related the history of this Linus beside the grave of Coroebus at Megara, where the story equally concerns Argos.3
