The son of Zeus and Io, born in Egypt after his mother's long wanderings. He became King of Egypt and founded the city of Memphis.1
I
When Io finally reached the banks of the Nile, Zeus restored her to human form with a touch of his hand. From this touch, she conceived and bore Epaphus (whose name means 'Touch').2
II
As a child, Epaphus was briefly kidnapped by the Curetes at the behest of a still-jealous Hera, but Io recovered him in Syria. He returned to Egypt, where he grew to inherit the kingdom, marrying Memphis and founding the city that bore her name.3
