Son of Zeus and Io; reigned over the Egyptians, founded Memphis and named it after his wife, Memphis daughter of Nile.1
Belus
Son of Poseidon and Libya; remained in Egypt and ruled while his twin Agenor departed for Phoenicia.2
Aegyptus
Son of Belus; subdued the Melampodes and named the land Egypt after himself. Twin Danaus held Libya and fled to Argos — not a Memphis successor.3
Busiris
King of Egypt who sacrificed strangers until Heracles slew him — son of Poseidon by Lysianassa daughter of Epaphus (Apollodorus). Episode-king, not a continuous Belid heir; distinct from Busiris son of Aegyptus killed among the Danaids (Bibliotheca 2.1.5). Plain name until promoted.4
Proteus
Apollodorus alone among our lenses calls Proteus king of Egypt — host of Dionysus and keeper of Helen until Menelaus found her. Homer's Old Man of the Sea sleeps among seals on Pharos (Odyssey 4), not as Memphis' dynast; both strands share one star, with Pharos as the Homeric seat.5
