Apollodorus alone among our lenses names her in the genealogy of the giant: Elare, daughter of Orchomenus, lay with Zeus and was buried alive beneath the soil so that Hera might not discover the affair. From that hidden pregnancy came Tityus, of monstrous size — a mortal mother for a creature who would assault Leto and earn eternal punishment in Tartarus.2
