A daughter of the river Asopus who gave her name to the island once called Scheria.1
Pausanias records the Phliasian reckoning of the river Asopus' daughters as Corcyra, Aegina, and Thebe. Of these, Corcyra and Aegina gave new names to the islands once called Scheria and Oenone, while the city below the Cadmea is named for Thebe.2
Apollonius tells how the Argonauts came to Corcyra, where Poseidon had settled the daughter of Asopus, fair-haired Corcyra, far from the land of Phlius, whence he had carried her off through love; and because sailors beholding it from the sea saw it all black with its sombre woods, they called it Corcyra the Black.3
In Apollodorus the island is the home of the Phaeacians, of which Alcinous was king, the haven the Argonauts reached after passing Thrinacia where the kine of the Sun are pastured.4
