A daughter of the river Ladon who married the river god Asopus and bore him two sons, Ismenus and Pelagon, and twenty daughters, of whom one, Aegina, was carried off by Zeus.1
Apollodorus sets her at the head of the Asopid line: Metope, herself a daughter of the river Ladon, married the river Asopus. His is the only one of our sources to give the matriarch of this house a father, naming her parentage in a single clause.2
By Asopus she bore two sons, Ismenus and Pelagon, and twenty daughters in all. Of the twenty Apollodorus singles out only one: Aegina, whom Zeus carried off, making Metope the grandmother of Aeacus, the son Aegina bore to the god.3
