Pausanias, describing a chest at the Amyclaean throne of Apollo, names Cleoboea among those on board the painted boat — still a maiden, holding on her knees a chest such as they make for Demeter — and records that she was the first to bring the orgies of Demeter to Thasos from Paros.2
