Son of Autesion (`autesion-theban`), guardian of the Spartan twins Eurysthenes and Procles, who led the Minyan settlers to Calliste and renamed the island Thera after himself.1
Though Eurysthenes and Procles were bitter enemies, the twins together helped Theras, their mother's brother and guardian, dispatch a colony to the island then called Calliste, where descendants of Membliarus already dwelt.2
Pausanias records that Theras son of Autesion son of Tisamenus dedicated a sanctuary of Athena on the Spartan Course when he led the colony; in ancient times the island was Calliste, but men afterward called it Thera after him.3
Apollonius, telling how Calliste had first sprung from the clod Euphemus cast into the sea, adds that this later colonization by Theras befell after the days of the Argonaut.4
