Wife of Agenor who bore Europa and the brothers Cadmus, Phoenix, and Cilix — and who died on the hopeless search for her abducted daughter before Cadmus reached Delphi and Apollo's cow.1
Agenor went to Phoenicia, married Telephassa, and begat a daughter Europa and three sons, Cadmus, Phoenix, and Cilix. When Zeus bore Europa away to Crete in bull-form, Agenor sent his sons to wander the world until they found her — and forbade their return without her.2
Telephassa went with her sons on the search. Apollodorus says that when she died, Cadmus buried her and came to Delphi to inquire about Europa — where Apollo told him to follow the marked cow and found Thebes. The mother who set out for a stolen daughter did not live to see the oracle that ended the quest in Boeotia.3
