In the Catalogue, Polypoetes leads the Lapiths who held Argissa, Gyrtone, Orthe, Elone, and Oloösson — son of Peirithous whom immortal Zeus begat, born when Peirithous took vengeance on the centaurs at Pelium. Not alone was he: Leonteus son of Coronus followed, and forty black ships ranged with them.2
Apollodorus and Hyginus count him among the captains who sailed to Troy; he must be kept distinct from Polypoetes the Ithacan suitor and from the Thesprotian son Odysseus begat on Callidice.3
