King of Corinth whose neatherds found the exposed infant on Cithaeron and brought him to Queen Periboea; the royal pair raised the boy as their own son, naming him Oedipus for his swollen ankles.1

When Laius exposed his infant on Mount Cithaeron, the herdsman set the child out as commanded — but the neatherds of Polybus, king of Corinth, discovered him and brought him to Periboea. She healed his pierced ankles, passed him off as her own, and called him Oedipus. He grew up at Corinth believing Polybus and Periboea were his true parents until taunts drove him to Delphi.2
