Son of Eetion (`eetion-cilicia`), a rich man and a valiant whom Hector honoured above all the people as his comrade and welcome companion at the feast — slain by Menelaus as he stood over Patroclus' body in the fight for the corpse.1
When Hector stood over Patroclus and hurled his bright spear, Athena filled his dark heart with daring. Among the Trojans was Podes, son of Eetion, a rich man and a valiant, and Hector honoured him above all the people, for that he was his comrade, a welcome companion at the feast. Fair-haired Menelaus smote him upon the belt with a spear cast as he started to flee, and drave the bronze clean through and out at the navel; he fell with a thud and his armour clanged upon him.2
