A son of Pelops and Hippodamia, Pittheus migrated to the Argolid peninsula and founded the city of Troezen, naming it after his deceased brother.2

He was famous throughout Greece for his wisdom and eloquence. When King Aegeus of Athens received a cryptic oracle about his childlessness, he visited Pittheus. The wise king understood the oracle instantly, made Aegeus drunk, and sent him to bed with his daughter Aethra, leading to the conception of Theseus.3
