Pausanias records the Argive succession from Phoroneus through Argus, who begat Peirasus and Phorbas; Phorbas in turn begat Triopas, and Triopas begat Iasus and Agenor. Io, daughter of Iasus, is the princess whose wanderings link Argos to Egypt and to the return of Danaus.2

The Argive king-list preserved in the lineage places Phorbas after Criasus son of Argus — a reign-order that synthesizes Apollodorus' Criasus with Pausanias' house of Phorbas and Triopas.3
