Hesiod numbers Pherusa among the fifty daughters of Nereus — after Doto and Proto, beside Dynamene, Nisaea and Actaea in the Theogony's roll of passing lovely goddesses.2

Homer spells the name Pherousa when Thetis' sisters beat their breasts in the bright cave: Doto and Proto and Pherousa and Dynamene appear together in the mourning throng. No marriage, child or landscape tale follows in our sources.3
