Peirithous was king of the Lapiths in Thessaly, famous for his friendship with Theseus and for the battle between Lapiths and centaurs at his wedding. He descended to Hades with Theseus to abduct Persephone and remained bound there for ever.

I.Mythology
Homer names him among the mightiest men who fought the centaurs and makes Polypoetes his son by Hippodameia, born when centaurs were driven from Pelium.
Apollodorus counts him son of Ixion and tells the oath with Theseus to marry daughters of Zeus, the abduction of Helen, and the failed descent for Persephone.
