In Greek mythology, Panopeus was a son of Phocus (by Asteria or Asterodia) and the twin brother of Crisus. The two brothers were so hostile that they were said to have begun fighting while still in their mother's womb. Panopeus was renowned as a skilled hunter who took part in the Calydonian boar hunt, was father of the craftsman Epeius, and served as the eponym of the Phocian city of Panope, or Panopeus.

I.Family
Panopeus was a son of Phocus by Asteria or Asterodia, and the twin brother of Crisus. The two brothers were so inimical towards each other that they began fighting while still in their mother's womb, just as Proetus and Acrisius did.
II.Descendants
Panopeus was the father of Epeius. When Panopeus broke an oath he had sworn during Amphitryon's campaign, the consequence fell upon Epeius, who turned out unwarlike, though still a good boxer and a skilled craftsman.
Panopeus also had a daughter, Aegle, who was numbered among the loves of Theseus. According to some accounts, it was out of love for Aegle that Theseus abandoned Ariadne on Naxos.
III.Mythology
Panopeus was renowned as a skilled hunter and took part in the Calydonian boar hunt.
He joined Amphitryon's campaign against the Taphians and Teleboans, swearing by the names of Athena and Ares not to lay his hand on any part of the booty. He broke this oath, however, and as a punishment his son Epeius turned out unwarlike, though still a good boxer and a skilled craftsman.
Panopeus was the eponym of the city Panope, also called Panopeus, in Phocis.
