One of the storm-winged Harpies whom Hesiod and Apollodorus name beside Aello as daughters of Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra — Ocypete, 'Swift-flier,' sister of Iris the rainbow.1
Hesiod names Ocypete with Aello among the long-haired Harpies born to Thaumas and Electra, swift as time upon the wind. Apollodorus repeats the pair in the same parentage roll. The collective node `harpies` holds the Phineus chase; this node is the individual named in both catalogues.2
When Zetes and Calais pursued the Harpies from Phineus' table, Apollodorus says one harpy fell into a Peloponnesian river and the other, Ocypete (or Ocythoe), fled to the islands thereafter called the Strophades. Hyginus lists Ocypete among three Harpies — Aellopous, Celaeno and Ocypete — daughters of Thaumas.3
