Son of Ampycus, trained in augury by Apollo, who sailed with Jason, kept watch with Acastus in storm, and died of a serpent's bite in Libya after joining the crew mid-voyage — not to be confused with Mopsus of Colophon, the son of Apollo and Manto who defeated Calchas on the Returns.1
Apollonius names Mopsus son of Ampycus among the seers of the voyage; when storm pinned the heroes ashore he and Acastus kept watch while a halcyon hovered prophesying calm. In Libya he was bitten by a serpent and died — Idmon's avenger Idas slew the beast that gored the other seer.2
Apollonius calls him Titaresian in the muster roll, while Hyginus makes him from Oechalia or, as some think, a Titarensian — the two towns are not equated in our corpus, and Titaresia is not yet a city in the Areas map, so Oechalia carries the residence entry and the Titaresian alternative stays in prose only.3
