Lygdamis I of Halicarnassus (Greek Λύγδαμις; ruled c. 520–484 BCE) was the first tyrant of Caria under the Achaemenid Empire and founder of the Lygdamid dynasty. Of Carian-Greek stock, he was father of Artemisia I of Caria, the queen who fought for Xerxes at Salamis.

I.Tyrant of Halicarnassus
Lygdamis ruled Halicarnassus as Achaemenid client and established the Lygdamid line of Carian tyrants (traditionally 520–450 BCE). Coinage from Mylasa in his era attests the dynasty's regional reach.
Pausanias remembers him as king of Halicarnassus and father of Artemisia — the woman who sailed of her own will with Xerxes and won renown at Salamis.

Other men named Lygdamis include the Naxian tyrant who built the Temple of Apollo on Naxos and Lygdamis II of Halicarnassus in the next generation. The atlas id lygdamis-halicarnassus is Artemisia's father, the first Halicarnassian Lygdamid.
