One of the three Moirai; Hesiod makes her first a fatherless daughter of Nyx and later a daughter of Zeus and Themis.1
Hesiod first names Lachesis among the ruthless Fates born by Nyx without a father. With Clotho and Atropos she assigns good and evil at birth and punishes transgression among mortals and gods.2⚖
The Theogony later gives Lachesis a different family, making her a daughter of Zeus and bright Themis and a sister of the Horae.3⚖
Apollodorus also lists Lachesis among the Fates born to Zeus and Themis.4⚖
Hyginus calls the three Parcae children of Night and Erebus. When they appeared at Meleager's birth, Lachesis announced that the infant would be brave.5⚖
