In Apollodorus' Arcadian life of Atalanta, the virgin huntress who lived always under arms was set upon by the centaurs Rhoecus and Hylaeus; both tried to force her, and both were shot down and killed by her.2

The name appears elsewhere in Ovid's hunting catalogues — a hound or follower in other lists — but the centaur who fell to Atalanta belongs only to the Apollodoran Arcadian saga and must not be merged with those homonyms.3
