Wife of the regent Creon, Eurydice watched her family be slowly destroyed by the curse of Thebes. When her youngest son Menoeceus sacrificed himself to Ares during the war, her grief was immense.2

The final blow came when her husband Creon condemned Antigone to death. Antigone's betrothed, Eurydice's son Haemon, committed suicide in despair. Upon hearing the news of Haemon's death, Eurydice drove a blade into her own heart, cursing her husband with her dying breath.3
