In Greek mythology, Cynortas (Ancient Greek: Κυνόρτας), also called Cynortes or Cynortus, was a king of Sparta. He was a son of King Amyclas and Queen Diomede, and he inherited the kingdom after the death of his brother Argalus. He was reckoned the father of Oebalus or of Perieres, either of whom went on to rule Sparta after him.

I.Description
In Greek mythology, Cynortas was a king of Sparta. His name is also given as Cynortes or Cynortus in the ancient sources.
II.Family
Cynortas was the son of King Amyclas of Sparta and Queen Diomede, and was thus brother to King Argalus, Hyacinthus, Laodamia (also called Leanira), Hegesandre, Harpalus, Polyboea, and, in other versions, Daphne.
He was reckoned the father either of Oebalus or of Perieres, one of whom succeeded him on the throne.
III.Mythology
After the death of his brother Argalus, Cynortas inherited the kingdom and in time became king of Sparta.
His tomb was shown near Scias at Sparta.
