Apollonius names two sons of Poseidon among Jason's crew — Erginus of Miletus and proud Ancaeus, who left Parthenia, the seat of Imbrasian Hera — and says both boasted their skill in seacraft and in war.2

When Tiphys the pilot perished among the Mariandynians, Hera kindled courage in Ancaeus, whom Astypalaea bore to Poseidon near the waters of Imbrasus; he urged the company onward and steered the ship through the clashing rocks and on to Colchis.3
