When the Delphic oracle sold Heracles into bondage, Omphale daughter of Iardanes bought him and he served her as a slave in Lydia. Apollodorus counts among Heracles' many children by Omphale a son Agelaus, from whom the family of Croesus was descended — the genealogical bridge between the hero's Lydian sojourn and later Lydian kingship.2
