Lycurgus

Sole named mythic king of Nemea in the atlas lenses: younger son of Pheres who left Thessalian Pherae for Argolis. Apollodorus has the Seven come to 'Nemea, of which Lycurgus was king' on the march against Thebes; his infant Opheltes (Archemorus) dies by the serpent and founds the Nemean games — Opheltes never reigns. Pausanias records Lycurgus' earthen tomb beside Opheltes' fenced grave at the sanctuary. The land-name eponym Nemea, daughter of Asopus (Paus. 2.15.3), is not called queen or king and is omitted here.1
