One of the fifty daughters of Danaus by the Naiad nymph Polyxo — by lot the bride of Phantes son of Egyptus when the sons of Aegyptus married the Danaids at Argos.1

Apollodorus names Theano second among the daughters of Danaus borne on Polyxo. When the twelve sons of Egyptus by Caliadne cast lots for the Polyxo maidens, Phantes drew Theano. On the wedding night she received her father's dagger and, like her sisters, slew her bridegroom — Hyginus counts her among the brides who obeyed Danaus.2
