Herald of Agamemnon and ready squire, sent with Eurybates to lead Briseis from Achilles' hut — and later bearer of the lambs when the kings swore their truce before Troy.1
When Agamemnon would not end his quarrel with Achilles, he called Talthybius and Eurybates and ordered them to the hut of Peleus' son: take fair-cheeked Briseis by the hand and lead her to the king's quarters, and if Achilles refused, Agamemnon would come himself with a larger company. Unwilling they went along the shore of the barren sea.2
In the truce before the duel of Menelaus and Paris, Agamemnon sent Talthybius to the hollow ships for a lamb, and Iris went to Helen in the likeness of her husband's sister, wife of Antenor — the herald's errand paired with the goddess' message as the armies paused.3
