Daughter of Acastus at Iolcus — in Apollodorus' account of Achilles' companions, mother of Patroclus son of Menoetius, the comrade reared in Peleus' house after the dice-quarrel at Opus.1
When Apollodorus lists the captains who sailed with Achilles against Troy, he names Patroclus son of Menoetius and Sthenele, daughter of Acastus — knitting the squire of Achilles into the Iolcan royal house that Sterope and Laodamia also belong to.2
The genealogist immediately records rival mothers for the same hero: Periopis daughter of Pheres, or Polymele daughter of Peleus in Philocrates' version — while Homer, whose ghost of Patroclus names only the exile from Opus and the house of Peleus, leaves the mother's name unstated.3⚖
