Galaxy/The codex of Porphyrion (Gigantes)

The greatest of the earthborn Giants beside Alcyoneus, who attacked Heracles and Hera in the Gigantomachy until Zeus smote him with a thunderbolt and Heracles finished him with an arrow.1

I

Apollodorus makes Porphyrion surpass all the rest among the Giants whom Earth bore to avenge the Titans — matchless in bulk, terrible of aspect, with dragon-scales for feet. When the oracle declared that no Giant could perish at the hands of gods alone but only with a mortal's help, Athena summoned Heracles to the war. In the battle Porphyrion attacked Heracles and Hera; Zeus inspired him with lust for Hera, and when he tore her robes and would have forced her, she called for help — Zeus smote him with a thunderbolt and Heracles shot him dead with an arrow.2
