The only son of Cadmus and Harmonia. Though the kingship first passed to his nephew Pentheus, Polydorus' line eventually reclaimed the throne of Thebes, leading to Labdacus and Oedipus.1

The only male heir of Cadmus and Harmonia, born in rich-crowned Thebes. When Cadmus grew old, he did not pass the throne to Polydorus, but yielded it to his grandson Pentheus, the son of his daughter Agave.2

After Pentheus was destroyed by the Bacchanals, Polydorus finally succeeded to the throne. His descendants, known as the Labdacids, would rule Thebes through generations of tragedy and curse.3
