An Oceanid daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, wife of Atlas and mother of the seven Pleiads — Alcyone, Merope, Celaeno, Electra, Sterope, Taygete, and Maia — born at Cyllene in Arcadia.1
Apollodorus names her in the same breath as the seven sisters: Atlas and Pleione, daughter of Ocean, had seven daughters called the Pleiades, brought forth at Cyllene in Arcadia. Zeus consorted with the daughters; Poseidon with others; Sterope married Oenomaus and Merope Sisyphus — but the mother of the whole constellation-line is Pleione, Ocean's daughter.2
Hyginus preserves the genealogy twice: from Atlas and Pleione came Maia, Calypso, Alcyone, Merope, Electra, and Celaeno in the preface roll; in the Astronomica he adds the catasterism tale — Pleione travelling through Boeotia with her daughters, Orion pursuing her for seven years until they were set among the stars.3
The atlas keeps her distinct from the collective name alone. The seven sister-nodes (`maia`, `alcyone-pleiad`, `merope-pleiad`, `celaeno-pleiad`, `electra-pleiad`, `sterope-pleiad`, `taygete`) carry the `pleiad` kind; this node holds the Oceanid parentage and the marriage to Atlas that the Batch E sisters lacked until now.4
