Apollodorus tells that when Heracles campaigned with the Calydonians against the Thesprotians and captured Ephyra, Phylas was king there; the hero lay with the king's daughter Astyoche and became the father of Tlepolemus. Homer names the same begetting when he makes Tlepolemus a son of Heracles whom the hero led out of Ephyre by the river Selleis after sacking many cities.2
