In the Catalogue, Phorcys and Ascanius lead the Phrygians from Ascania, eager to fight in the press of battle. Apollodorus makes them sons of Aretaon among the allies who joined the Trojans.2
When the battle raged about Patroclus' body, Hector heartened Phorcys among the allied captains; later Ajax smote wise-hearted Phorcys, son of Phaenops, full upon the belly as he bestrode Hippothous, and the bronze let forth the bowels through his corselet.3
