In Greek mythology, Niobe was a daughter of Phoroneus and Teledice, sister of Apis, and by Zeus the mother of Argus, the eponym of Argos. Acusilaus claimed she was the first woman to have intercourse with Zeus, and some sources also make her mother of Pelasgus. She is not the Theban Niobe punished for boasting against Leto.

Niobe was a daughter of Phoroneus and Teledice and the sister of Apis. By Zeus she was the mother of Argus, who gave his name to Argos. She may have appeared in the lost genealogical epic Catalogue of Women as part of the Inachid family tree of Argos.
According to a lost work of the sixth-century BCE mythographer Acusilaus — cited by Apollodorus — and the Pseudo-Clementine Writings, she was also the mother of Pelasgus. Acusilaus further claimed she was the first woman ever to have sex with Zeus.
II.Homonym caution
This Argive Niobe must not be confused with the more famous Theban Niobe, daughter of Tantalus, who was punished for boasting that she had more children than Leto.
