Son whom Medea bore to Aegeus at Athens after she fled Corinth; exiled with his mother when she plotted against the unrecognized Theseus, he conquered barbarian lands and gave his name to Media before marching against the Indians and meeting his death.1
Apollodorus sets him after the Corinthian catastrophe: Medea came to Athens and, being there married to Aegeus, bore him a son Medus. When she plotted against Theseus and was driven out, Medus fled with her; he conquered many barbarians, called the whole country Media after himself, and at last marched against the Indians and died.2
Pausanias tells the same eastern turn: after Medea fled Athens she came to the land then called Aria and caused its inhabitants to be named Medes after her, and the son she brought with her — Medus — gave the name to the country.3
