King of Scyros who received Achilles disguised as a maiden among his daughters, father of Deidamia, and host of Neoptolemus until Odysseus fetched the boy for Troy.1
Foreseeing that Achilles was fated to perish if he went to the war, Thetis disguised him in female garb and entrusted him as a maiden to Lycomedes. Bred at his court, Achilles had an intrigue with Deidamia, daughter of Lycomedes, and begot Pyrrhus, afterwards called Neoptolemus.2
When the secret was betrayed, Odysseus sought Achilles at the court of Lycomedes and uncovered him by the blast of a trumpet; later Odysseus and Phoenix persuaded Lycomedes to let Neoptolemus sail for Troy.3
Theseus, driven from Athens by Menestheus, came to Lycomedes on Scyros; the king threw him down an abyss and killed him.4
